Using sophisticated protocols, Nathalie Novain lists, classifies, and analyzes geometrical shapes. Cones, spheres, polyhedra, cylinders, pyramids and other patterns derived from forms observable in nature feed a catalog from which she draws to design her sculptures. Also, her museographic arrangements, mixing images and volumes, put in tension the different states of the process which lead from the natural form to the geometric abstraction, then to its volumetric reproduction, thus making visible what is hidden in the matter, namely the structure that binds together the things of the world.
On the desk table of Lévi-Strauss still stands a dandelion enclosed in a bubble of glass. The anthropologist saw in this flower the model of his structural thought. The same type of intuition is found in Nathalie Novain's works, when she extracts essential geometrical forms and, through sensible representations, gives a way to observe how "All things come out of the one, and the one out of all things."
